Studio Work Ruby

This week, our MA photography session took place in the Studio. Working with creative lighting, we were photographing models whose special effects make up had been created by  Neil Hughes and his students from Dudley College. This was an interesting task for me as I don't often work with studio lighting. I'm looking forward to getting back in the studio to further develop my skills. Here are a few pictures!

The 'best of' ... so far!

As part of my MA this week, I've been asked to create a section in my blog called 'the best of', containing my favourite pictures I've taken so far in the field of sport. We've been looking at our style as photographers and how this can be seen in the photo's we take. I'm not sure that I have a definite style yet although I do think my photographs share a lot of similar creative traits. I hope that my style will become more defined over the coming months as I continue to analyse and critique my own photography.

The Lyrebirds

Something a little different for me, local band The Lyrebirds asked me to shoot some images for them & they were quite specific about what they wanted involved... a Tandem!
After a little time spent in a nearby park, these were some of the images created.
I really enjoyed this shoot, it was quite a different way of working for me. With mainly shooting sports/action images I'm more used to following what's happening in front of me whereas this shoot enabled me to direct and create what I wanted to see.... Much fun!

Women's Rugby

On Sunday 2nd October, I travelled to Leicester to photograph Moseley Women's Rugby Football Club take on Stoneygate Ladies. The teams, who play in the National Championship Midlands 2 leaguebattled it out against each other in what proved to be a very exciting game which sadly, ended in stalemate with both teams finishing on 17 points.

When I was took these photo's, I was trying to see if I could capture the essence of the game & the emotions of the players involved. I am very interested in sports photography both the technical & the create side of this medium. When I take the images, I am aspiring to be like such established & famous photographers as Bob Martin. I felt like I achieved my own objectives for this shoot & was quite pleased with the images I've taken. I'd like to continue improving on my technical abilities with the camera itself as well as being able to develop the creative side of my photography & strive to take pictures that show my subject in a different way.

Grass Roots Football

Just a few images of some friends of mine playing football after work. Not having all of the incredibly long lenses the professionals have, I stuck with my 24-105mm & 70-200mm's and set out to see if I could create a sequence of images that were visually interesting & a little different…
